Presentation of the Church Record of St. Andrew's Church |
Rosanne Kirkpatrick's remarks at the presentation of the Church Record of St Andrew's Church, Hempstead:
"I have the result of many hours' work by the Saffron Walden branch of NADFAS (National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies) Church Recorders.
We have described, measured and photographed everything we could find and visited the Fitzwilliam Museum to record a 1561 chalice belonging to the church.
There are 5 copies of the report with:
- 1 copy going to the Essex Record Office
- 1 to the Victoria & Albert Museum Arts Library
- 1 to the Council for the Care of Churches
- 1 to the National Monuments Record Centre in Swindon
- and this one is for you.
It is the 18th record this group have completed in the Saffron Walden area and there are about the same numbers that need to be done. To date almost 100 completed in Essex and some 1500 countrywide. As there are 16,000 Anglican churches (as well as nonconforming and Roman Catholic buildings) we have much to do.
We completed the Record for Radwinter in 1993 and hope to record Great Sampford in 2007 and currently we are recording in Little Chesterford at present.
I am delighted to hand over to you the Record of St Andrew's."
